Macbeth's list of snow day binge worthy watches:
The Blacklist
The Blacklist is a television series about FBI agent Keen and Raymond Reddington. I recently started watching it so I am not very far along, but basically Reddington is a criminal who is helping the FBI catch criminals off his Blacklist. Macbeth would choose this series because it is about crime, and involves aspects of mystery and drama. These things are also quite apparent in Macbeth's life. I feel like criminals watch criminal movies and either make fun of them or secretly learn from the things that are done. This show would appeal to Macbeth because each episode so far investigates one of the members on Reddington's list. So the FBI tries to catch the criminal like Macduff is trying to do with Macbeth. We now can understand that Macbeth is highly skilled and mysterious, much like the criminals on Reddington's list so he would possibly feel some sort of connection to some of the characters in the show. There is also a lot of blood spilled which Macbeth does not seem to have a problem with and there is a list of who to murder which is similar to Macbeth's "list" to kill King Duncan.
It
Macbeth would choose the movie It because it is a horror film. The main plot of this film revolves around a group of kids who encounter an evil clown. The clown, Pennywise, is scary and goes after children. Macbeth would choose this film because he can relate very much to the main antagonist, Pennywise. The clown is much like Macbeth because it puts on a mask for its audience. Pennywise shape-shifts as well which is much like Macbeth throughout the play. This movie choice reveals a parallel between Macbeth's character and Pennywise's character. At the beginning of the play he is molded into who Lady Macbeth wants him to be. For instance, Lady Macbeth "shapes" him into a murder to kill King Duncan. And then he takes on his shift by continuing this evil deed of murder. Based on this recommendation, we can understand that there is appearance versus reality present in Macbeth's character. From the people he interacts with in the play, he appears innocent and loyal to the king. But in reality he is hiding behind his ambition to make his fate come true.
Supernatural
Macbeth would be recommend the television series Supernatural because it would intrigue him very much. This TV show is about two brothers who fight supernatural beings. When they were kids, Dean and Sam's mother was killed by a supernatural, now they take after their father and hunt supernaturals. They are like ghost-busters. Macbeth would definitely recommend this show because it is something that he would enjoy watching himself. With all of the supernatural elements at play in his life, the three witches, the prophecies, his fate, he would want to watch something entertaining. His recommendation may reveal his desire to kill the three witches, he would be intrigued by a show that hunts and kills different supernaturals every episode.
House of Cards
Macbeth would choose the television series House of Cards as well. House of Cards is a show revolving around politics. Macbeth's life during the play revolves around politics. He is told he will be king and he wants the throne. House of Cards is about Frank and Carrie who are married and the political struggles they experience for vengeance. Macbeth can relate a great deal to Frank's character because in many regards they are similar. Throughout the show, Frank reveals his desires for power and the ends to which he will go to receive it. Like Macbeth, Frank is willing to kill for power. Macbeth would watch this show to reinforce his sense of masculinity through Frank's character. His recommendation may also reveal that there are parallels between Frank and Carrie's relationship and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's relationship. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth only care about each other, much like Frank and Carrie in this show. We can now understand that Macbeth likes to watch shows very similar to his life and he likes the feeling of not being alone in his struggles.
Bates Motel
Macbeth would most definitely watch and recommend the television show Bates Motel. The Bates Motel is a creepy show, but somehow I personally couldn't stop watching it. It is about a boy named Norman and his mom Norma Bates. They move to a new town and start up the Bates Motel to get a fresh start, but (spoiler) Norma and Norman begin to kill a bunch of people. Not all at once, but overtime, more so Norman. Macbeth is much like Norman and Lady Macbeth is like Norma. Just like in the play, the first kill is due to Norma (Lady Macbeth-sorta even though she only convinced Macbeth) but from there, Norman goes wild and murders innocent people then proceeds to cover them up. His recommendation may reveal that he acknowledges Norma's influence over Norman is like Lady Macbeth's influence over Macbeth. Macbeth would choose this show because he would appeal to the relationship Norman and Norma have. We can now understand that Macbeth's character is into horror and likes murders.
Tay Tay this is a good blog post!! When I first saw that you put It on the list, I admit I was slightly confused. However, I loved how you made the connection by saying that Macbeth "put on a mask". I never would have thought about something like that! Also, I'm so weak at Bates Motel because I can imagine Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as Norma and Norman.
